Day 14 of 366: thankful for the sense of smell

Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

John 12:3

The smell of morning coffee can be pretty enticing.

The smell of books can be new, funky, musky, rich.

The smell of flowers leave a beautiful and sometimes everlasting effect throughout the rest of the day.

The smell of food when it’s cooking!

The smell after the rains has fallen.

The luscious scent of vanilla anything!

But not all smells are pleasant, beautiful, or sweet. Some are disgusting, pungent, or downright rotten. Yet, I think that nothing is more memorable than smell for it can transport you back to memories that you hold dear in your heart.

I used to have a fine sense of smell meaning that I could’ve smelled something from a distance before seeing it whether it was a good or bad smell, but since the flu affected my health, I’ve lost that really sharp sense of smell. Nevertheless, I am thankful for the sense of smell and I bless God that I can still smell the scent of vanilla, coffee, and pastries.
