Day 24 of 366: thankful for sleep

I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.Β

Psalm 3:5

Sleeping is something that I am very grateful for. Insomnia runs on my father’s side of the family and on most nights, some of my relatives are up trying to fight themselves to sleep. Sleep is also something that comes naturally to me as I am anemic, so I fall asleep rather easily as soon as I hit the pillow. It’s the best medication for my condition right now.

Day 23 of 366: thankful for the ability to read

β€œI have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

Psalm 119:11

Reading is like a vitamin for me. When I was younger and unaware of time, I would read for hours. I prided myself on reading two books in one day sometimes. As an adult with responsibilities and aware of time management, I still enjoy reading, but now I try to use my reading time wisely.

Day 22 of 366: thankful for the view from the top of the mountain!

And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

Luke 6:12Β

I live on a hill. On some days, I feel as if the climb to get home is a little too much, but I do appreciate the view from the gallery.

Mountains are significant in the Bible in symbolic, prophetic, and physical ways. Faith can move them and they quake before the Lord. A lot of remarkable things happened on mountain tops including the greatest sermon ever preached and God’s glorious presence passing before Moses.

The mountains bring me closer to God as it’s a great place for solitude. Not all of us live in mountainous areas and can have that level of spiritual intimacy with God, but its what’s in your heart. When we desire to just be alone with God we’re showing that we want Him for nothing else in this world matters. We can create our own spiritual mountains wherever we are. Just find that quiet and peaceful place where you can spend time with the Creator even if it’s in your closet.Β

Day 21 of 366: thankful for the ability to help others

β€œLet each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

Philippians 2:4

Helping others doesn’t necessarily mean that you need money to help them. I love helping in any which way the Lord has directed me to even at work. Small things like helping someone copy documents, offering a listening ear and even waiting with someone until he/she gets transport to head home.Β

Day 20 of 366: thankful for cozy sweaters!

Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant.

Psalm 119:76Β

Due to being anemic, I’m almost always cold, so I invested in sweaters that can keep me warm at work, at church, while I sleep, and even when I’m going out. Sweaters are like blankets I can wear anywhere! They’re cozy, warm, and comforting like God’s love.Β

Day 19 of 366: thankful for the weather

“For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ And to the downpour and the rain, ‘Be strong.’

Job 37:6

The day started out hot and sunny, so we weren’t expecting the sudden, but a welcoming downpour of rain. It is now late evening, and it’s cold. I’m going to call this a day, read a book, and spend time with my family.

Day 18 of 366: thankful for time spent with God

Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.

Psalm 62:1

Spending time with God is very vital. In His presence, I feel invigorated, renewed, rejuvenated. I try to spend time with Him every day despite the activity that I might be doing, or sitting in front of the computer at work. In all my thoughts, I try to keep Him at the forefront.Β

Day 17 of 366: thankful for a really comfortable chair

Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

1 Chronicles 16:11

I have a bit of a bad posture from slouching over the years for I could never sit – or stand for that matter – straight. I still slouch from time to time, but I have a very comfortable chair in the office that reminds me to sit straight whenever I pull it up to the desk.

Day 16 of 366: thankful for long lines

Whoever is patient has great understanding,
but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.

Proverbs 14:29

I know this might seem like a weird one, but I am thankful for long lines. When I started working and had to line up at the bank, at KFC, at the shop, etc., I was pretty mad that the line was not moving. Over the years, I came to learn patience through waiting in line. True story.

Day 15 of 366: thankful for crossword puzzles!

β€œFor everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1

My sister recently downloaded a crossword puzzle game – Codycross – and I have to admit, it can get addicting. I don’t have any games on my phone or tablet or even laptop for that matter, so I normally join in the fun with her.

However, I also have to remember that there is a time for everything. A time to play crosswords and a time to refrain for I don’t want it to affect my personal time with Christ.
