Day 31 of 366: thankful for daily interactions

“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.”

Proverbs 25:11

When I was younger, I disliked interacting with others. I didn’t know why people wanted to talk to me when all I wanted to do was exist in silence!

I’m still a quiet person by creation, but now, I do value meeting and interacting with people on a daily be they students, potential ones, or my colleagues. I also value striking up a conversation with anyone interested in knowing more about God.

Day 30 of 366: thankful for speakers

Moreover, the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer court, like the voice of God Almighty when He speaks.

Ezekiel 10:5

I am currently sitting at my second desk trying to come up with ideas for two designs. I went to listen to French as I work, but the volume was a little problematic on the computer, so I ended up using speakers to listen to the conversational practice. I tend to take speakers for granted, but not today! 😀

The simplest things are also to be thankful for and today, I am thankful for the sound coming through the speakers and the reminder that I always need to listen for the voice of God no matter where I might be.

Day 29 of 366: thankful for the cleaning lady

Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;

Isaiah 1:16

“Cleanliness is next to godliness” was a saying that stuck with me since I was a little girl. I keep my office space clean always, but the cleaner still comes in to do her job. Working and living in a clean environment is a blessing and when I think of clean, I think of God cleansing us, making our sins white as snow. Spotless.

Day 28 of 366: thankful for a job

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,

Colossians 3:23

When I was younger, I’ve always wanted to work in a library and after working in a restaurant and Student Services, God placed me in a library and I’ve been here for ten going on eleven years now. I’ve been blessed to experience the highs and the lows. I’ve also been blessed with establishing a good rapport with the patrons.

However, I am at that stage where I feel as if it’s time to move on. This is something I’ve taken to God in prayers and although He says not yet, I’m thankful for His answer for throughout the old routines, He has provided something new, so I know He still has me here for a reason.

Day 27 of 366: thankful for calendars

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

Ecclesiastes 3:1

Calendars can be used to mark appointments and special days. I have one hanging on my office wall, one in my bedroom, one in my printed planner, and another one in my work bag. I don’t normally use them to mark important dates off, but they do come in handy when I have to check the date.

Day 26 of 366: thankful for good company

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.

1 Corinthians 15:33

I’m still tired from yesterday after spending the day with good company in Christ, so this is going to be short. Good company is the kind that you can trust to share things with, enjoy clean conversation with, and share the love of Christ with. I’ve been blessed to be a part of such a company on the Sabbath as we caught up over amazing food. 💙

Day 25 of 366: thankful for fruits

“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

Matthew 12:33

I love fruits! I don’t really have a favorite for they keep changing, but at the moment, I enjoy plums, paw paw (or papaya), grapes, and bananas. When I see fruits, they bring me back to the scriptural concept of fruit-bearing.

Essentially, bearing fruit is to become like Jesus and you can read up on a life characterized by the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23.

Today, I am thankful for the fruits that my Heavenly Father has blessed the earth with and for the fruits of the Spirit to mold me into the image of the Son of Righteousness.

Day 24 of 366: thankful for sleep

I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.

Psalm 3:5

Sleeping is something that I am very grateful for. Insomnia runs on my father’s side of the family and on most nights, some of my relatives are up trying to fight themselves to sleep. Sleep is also something that comes naturally to me as I am anemic, so I fall asleep rather easily as soon as I hit the pillow. It’s the best medication for my condition right now.

Day 23 of 366: thankful for the ability to read

“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

Psalm 119:11

Reading is like a vitamin for me. When I was younger and unaware of time, I would read for hours. I prided myself on reading two books in one day sometimes. As an adult with responsibilities and aware of time management, I still enjoy reading, but now I try to use my reading time wisely.

Day 22 of 366: thankful for the view from the top of the mountain!

And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

Luke 6:12

I live on a hill. On some days, I feel as if the climb to get home is a little too much, but I do appreciate the view from the gallery.

Mountains are significant in the Bible in symbolic, prophetic, and physical ways. Faith can move them and they quake before the Lord. A lot of remarkable things happened on mountain tops including the greatest sermon ever preached and God’s glorious presence passing before Moses.

The mountains bring me closer to God as it’s a great place for solitude. Not all of us live in mountainous areas and can have that level of spiritual intimacy with God, but its what’s in your heart. When we desire to just be alone with God we’re showing that we want Him for nothing else in this world matters. We can create our own spiritual mountains wherever we are. Just find that quiet and peaceful place where you can spend time with the Creator even if it’s in your closet.

I am utmost thankful for the view from the top of the mountain and the symbolism they represent.
